In our network of French-American organizations: DAPHNE
DAPHNE is a charitable non-governmental organization whose mission is to meet the first psychological needs of expatriates through a network of professional volunteers, providing support and guidance to crisis victims in major traumatic events.
DAPHNE uses innovative and relevant psychological crisis management tools to help major events victims manage the stress caused by major events like natural disasters, accidents, and domestic or international terrorism.
Implementation
Implementation is based on the creation of a network of Coordination Psychological Support Units (C.P.S.U.) under the aegis of DAPHNE.
DAPHNE has already deployed 60 volunteers divided into 8 teams out of 10 planned in the U.S. major metropolitan areas. Four teams are fully operational; four are pre-operational; and two are in the process of finding volunteers.
Example of an intervention:
In July 2019, DAPHNE was asked to intervene in an accident involving a fatal Navy F18 Hornet at Death Valley National Park in California. Seven French victims were affected by this accident which cost the life of a Navy pilot. Victims were cared for within 2 hours of DAPHNE’s activation by the French Consulate General in Los Angeles. Psychological support was provided throughout the duration of their hospitalization until their repatriation to France three weeks later.
Management
DAPHNE is managed by three volunteers in charge of general operations; legal affairs; and finance and of three volunteers as local representatives.
