The Comité Tricolore responds to individual requests for help from those in our community who find themselves in very delicate situations.
Since its creation, the Comité has distributed over $500,000 to individuals or families in need, thanks to annual fund-raising events such as Bastille Day.
Your donation will be used to support an individual or a family in difficulty. Every month we give support to individuals and families in extremely difficult situations: some with disabled children, some with severe emotional distress who have nowhere else to turn.
These monthly checks help to make a difference in their everyday lives and allows them to get through difficult times with dignity and hope.
Where does the money go?
The Solidarity Subcommittee reviews all the requests received based on recommendations of the French consular social services or directly from individuals.
The Subcommittee determines the urgency, and the most appropriate way to respond to each situation.
Catholic and Protestant Francophone parishes in Washington, D.C. are also involved in the management and allocation of aid granted by the Comité Tricolore to benefit families in need.
How do we proceed?
Support, for example, may be given for purchasing a wheelchair, essential medical equipment, or in the form of financial aid for daily needs such as buying food or paying for heating bills, electricity or medical bills.
The Comité Tricolore has intervened in many cases by giving a monthly allowance to recipients in order to enable them to meet rent or health care costs.
The Comité Tricolore is there to help those in difficult time get back on their feet. As such, it has provided short term assistance, including academic assistance or training.
Who is benefiting?
Some example of those who have benefited from the Comité Tricolore’s help have been isolated individuals and elderly with insufficient income, a battered woman who had to flee home with her children, a person diagnosed with a degenerative disease with a child at charge, families with disabled children or families faced with difficult physical, moral and/or financial circumstances.
[Details of our new programs established in 2025
We have started three new programs on top of the monthly support we give to
individuals and families in extremely difficult situations:
> * Emergency Accommodation
> * Digital Support
> * Solidarity Contact
Emergency Accommodation
Emergency accommodation will primarily be provided to patients and their
companions coming from mainland France for treatment at the NIH.
Volunteers who have expressed a willingness to help will be contacted to
clarify the terms of their support (length of stay, capacity, etc.).
Digital Support
Consistent with the goal of fostering connection and autonomy, we are
working with the Consulate to implement support for the use of digital
tools for our seniors, particularly through the development of digital
identity and security.
Solidarity Contact
To establish a solidarity telephone contact, 3 to 4 times per year by phone
only, for people aged 85 and over or their identified relatives, to:
* Check on them
* Assess their social situation and potential needs
* Offer them a warm, human connection
* Listen to their requests or concerns
If you would like to volunteer, you can email Frédéric Roche
([email protected]), head of our Solidarity Committee. We
need as much help as we can get.
Other Special programs
Some special programs could be continued with your support; For exemple:
– Solidarity Dinners
– Hot meals delivery at La Casa Friendship Place
Our deepest gratitude to the Friends of the Comité Tricolore.
