The Statue of Liberty, the Renewal of a Symbol

Wednesday 23 June 2021 from 12:00 to 14:00

The Embassy of France in the U.S., the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Cnam), and the CMA-CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, are partnering to bring an emblematic treasure and symbol of freedom to the United States.

This summer, a Lady Liberty crafted from Bartholdi’s molds will once again cross the Atlantic to stand on American ground. This 10-foot statue will leave in June 2021 from the same port in France used by her older sister, visit her sibling on Liberty Island for Independence Day, and finally settle in at the French Ambassador’s residence in Washington, D.C. on Bastille Day, where she will stand as a symbol of the longstanding and strong Franco-American friendship

To celebrate the arrival of the statue, the Cultural Services of the French embassy in the United States are organizing a virtual roundtable at the Maison française on June 23 at 12PM on Zoom, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Philippe Etienne, Ambassador of France to the United States will introduce the conversation during which the panelists will discuss the current significance of the symbols the statue of liberty carries: the Franco-American friendship, freedom, hope for a better world, and the fight against oppression.
